@tess

Copyright is so fundamentally broken that's it's purpose now is solely *prevent* it's actual purpose from happening.

I support the idea of copyright, but perhaps not as much for corporations as individuals. A sane duration of 10 years would be reasonable.

The contract that we the people grant a creator monopoly for a time in exchange for public use after that period....when 'we' the public granting that contract will literally be dead before we see that 'benefit' is truly insane.

At least, music/movies we can get the 'source'. With video games the source code, even though copyrighted - is never available.

@pixelpusher220 @tess I always thought the point of copyright was to make sure artists were duly credited for their work. Fuck copyright though.

@Ophois @tess the actual purpose is to incentivize the creation of new works. The *method* by which we do that incentivization is by a limited time monopoly the creator can use how they want.

I.e. if they are compensated, they'll make more content.

But now copyright extends to 75 years *after* the death of the author. How that dead author is incentivized to create more is sorta a mystery.
