@jsnell @jwjlacy fellow Kiwi here - we used to pronounce words like people from the UK for heritage reasons, until the advent of so much US television on our screens starting around 30 years ago. Now we’re just as likely to say it the US way as not, e.g. the word route (vs UK sounding root). But particularly in computer land, with words such as beta, it will be more American style because of the even greater influence of the US on computer history generally
