You don't have to use Mastodon through an app!

Every server has its own website where you can log in and use all its features. The web interface is excellent, and it usually gets the latest features before the apps do.

Your server's website address will usually be the same as its name, for example the website for the server kind.social is at https://kind.social

The website works on both computers and phones. (If you're using the phone version, click # to see the search box.)

@feditips I only moved to an app (Ice Cubes) because logging in at my server does not make it easy to quickly find the latest posts - Ice Cubes has that as a feature. If I have not been near Mastodon for a day I don't want to scroll through hundreds of posts to catch up ... or is there a better solution that I am missing?

Do you mean notifications, or your Home timeline, or something else?

@feditips ... When I last used the server to access Mastodon I would go to (say) "Home" and the post on top was/is more or less where I left off (5h ago, 1d ago etc) and I had to scroll and scroll to find current posts. I would like it to always be up to date ... or has it already been fixed and I am behind the curve again?

The very next comment I got on this thread was saying they preferred apps because the Home timelines *didn't* jump to the top.

I guess this is why it's good to have a range of options!

Yeah I think that'd be good to pick up from where you were last up to - no pressure then to necessarily catch up on everything posted since you last checked, cos you can just pick up again from where you were up to.
