Yes, Texans actually pay more in taxes than Californians do

The Lone Star State is touted as "low-tax" because it has no income tax. But recently resurfaced data shows that may only apply if you're a wealthy resident.

@Chron no, no one cares
@hapbt @Chron
Yes, I can attest that at least one person cares.
@Chron Of course they do. Because property taxes are not for nothing...

@Chron

Some years ago I worked and paid taxes in three states in one year (Minn, Maine and Calif). People are always surprised to hear Calif income tax was lowest.

@Chron is that including local taxes, or only federal?
@ekg Texas doesn't have a state income tax, but it does have a sales tax on every purchase, plus lots of local property taxes. When they're added up, they come out to a little bit more than California's.
@Chron but I thought that is land of freedom 🤔
@Chron So that one star is actually a review?

@Chron

Well, their prison bills are higher.

@Chron
Don't get me started on property taxes! I moved here from FL, it's 3.5 X and my property is less valuable according to the state.
Abbott promised to address this, (I did not vote for him), he hasn't.
But he did pass a bill to kill people in this extreme heat, so there's that.
