@BryanW it's something I guess...
@kkarhan If you live in a rural area as I do, this is a hugh something!

@BryanW OFC, I don't deny that and it's long overdue.

But considerung the vastness of the USA, $42B won't get you much if connecting a single farm woth FTTB/FTTH can easily cost 6 digits...

And yes that is estimated using poles...

@kkarhan Our electric co-op here in Viginia (CVEC) is working hard to install over 3,600 miles of fiber-optic cable in the 14 counties it serves, the job is within a month of being completed for 38,000 customers. Cost is well under 100M $.

@BryanW I guess that's because as a cooperative and grid operator, they already have the professionals inhouse and thus don't need external contractors to plan, install and connect everything up....

After all, a small state in Germany [Rhineland-Palatinate] estimated 100% FTTH coverage to cost them €8 -10B and for U.S. comparison that is basically nothing...

@kkarhan @BryanW

Much of the work on the CVEC install was done using external contractors. I'm not sure the exact percentage. They did use CVEC personnel for some upgrades on poles
