What would it be like if more of the scientific/academic world looked like this? If these were qualities that institutions sought after?

This comes from a book on Participatory Action Research: http://ndl.ethernet.edu.et/bitstream/123456789/6844/1/Sara%20Kindon.pdf

This is mostly directed at the social sciences, but not exclusively: Scientific research should have more helpful, tangible goals than just to accumulate knowledge with a few policy implications tacked on at the bottom.

It should cooperate with the communities that are most central to research, and help those at the margins, or those who have the most to lose.

Really, if it doesn’t do these things, what is it for? What makes the research worth funding, and whose interests does it ultimately serve?
