You can attach audio, video or photos to Mastodon posts. To do this click on the attachment logo (which is a paperclip 📎 on the web, apps will usually have a photo icon).

Attachments can be:

-Up to four PNG, JPG or GIF images of 8 megabytes

OR

-One MP4, M4V, MOV or WebM video of 40 megabytes

OR

-One MP3, OGG, WAV, FLAC, OPUS, AAC, M4A or 3GP audio file of 40 megabytes

There is no length limit on audio or video, only a file size limit. Remember to add text descriptions for attachments! 👍

p.s. As @jherazob has just pointed out, an alternative method is to embed media from another site. You can do this by just including the link in your post, it will automatically turn into an embedded player.

For example, to include a YouTube video just include the video's link in your post. This also works with Bandcamp, PeerTube, Giphy etc.

Here's a PeerTube example:

Note that it may take a few mins for embedded players to appear, and some apps may not support them.

I assume, this depends, how someone is using #Mastodon. Via the web interface or via an app.

@nick

Yeah, some apps may not show the embedding, or they may have it as an optional setting due to privacy issues with some sites.
