I wasn't going to watch GnR tonight, I was going to let the fond memories live on in my head.
But you know what, I'm enjoying them.
I was a *HUGE* fan of them in the day. They were the first band I truly loved. I listened to them every. single. day for a good two years.
But Axl was always just a bit of a cunt.
Then Slash and Duff left and as far as I was concerned GnR was dead.
Some of the lyrics haven't aged, but man, the music is still great.
If you're enjoying GnR, and weren't aware; they re-released Use Your Illusions I & II a while back in glorious remasters, and they're *really* well done.
They haven't done anything to Axl's vocals though, so they still sound good.
.@Troggie has just pointed out that the coverage of GnR is essentially just Slash cranking out incredible solos, with Axl mixed low enough that he doesn't really bother the sound.
Oh fuck me, they're digging in to The Spaghetti Incident, which pleases me enormously, because I really *really* loved that record.
With hindsight, TSI was blatantly a contractual obligation record, but I was 13 when it came out, and it introduced me to a whole world of punk I had no idea about.
Their cover of Ain't It Fun is bleak and wonderful.

Also, Civil War is a fucking great track. The lyrics are somewhat on the nose, but it carries a message worth repeating.

You Could Be Mine is a Fucking Great track (if you ignore half the lyrics*). The musicianship and production on it are absolutely phenomenal.

If Robert Patrick had had his way, his brother's band would have featured on the Terminator 2 soundtrack instead of this. Sadly, Filter were still a year or so away from releasing Hey Man, Nice Shot, so didn't get their break then.

What's kind of a headfuck is them finishing each song, and my head starts humming the next song on whichever album it's from. I know those albums inside out, so it's kinda spinning me out that they're not playing them in album order, even though that makes no sense.
And now they're playing the song that most people have gone to see them for.
I've always thought Sweet Child was kinda dull. I mean, it's fine, and fun to sing along to , but compared to literally everything else on Appetite... it's ...ok...
But hey, it pays their mortgages, so fair play. I could never write a track so catchy.

Nice of them to program in a nice sit down for Slash. The guy's nearly 60, he can't be standing all evening.
So here's a thing about Knockin' On Heaven's Door; there's a bit about 2/3 of the way in where there's this scratching noise. For years I assumed it was because my tape copy was a bit fucky or something, only to discover earlier this year that it's actually intentional because it's on the remastered version.
I have no idea what that noise is, but it genuinely sounds like a fault in the recording process somewhere.
I hope to god you've muted me by now, if you couldn't give a shit about GnR.

Y'know, this just cements my belief that Dave Grohl is the nicest man in rock.
He didn't come to Glastonbury just to play a set with his band, he came because he likes being there, played his set, then hung around to watch all the other bands.
