Ah, poor Slash and Duff being contractually obligated to play shit from The Chinese Democracy that no one gives a shit about.
All the crowd wondering what the fuck this is, because no one's listened to any new #GunsNRoses since The Spaghetti Incident came out in 1993.
Might have spoken a bit soon.
The sound guy has Axl mixed quite low in the mix for this.
The rest of the band are doing excellent work though.
It took me a *loong* time to realise this song was about heroin.
It's called Mr Brownstone ffs.
I wasn't going to watch GnR tonight, I was going to let the fond memories live on in my head.
But you know what, I'm enjoying them.
I was a *HUGE* fan of them in the day. They were the first band I truly loved. I listened to them every. single. day for a good two years.
But Axl was always just a bit of a cunt.
Then Slash and Duff left and as far as I was concerned GnR was dead.
Some of the lyrics haven't aged, but man, the music is still great.
If you're enjoying GnR, and weren't aware; they re-released Use Your Illusions I & II a while back in glorious remasters, and they're *really* well done.
They haven't done anything to Axl's vocals though, so they still sound good.
.@Troggie has just pointed out that the coverage of GnR is essentially just Slash cranking out incredible solos, with Axl mixed low enough that he doesn't really bother the sound.
Oh fuck me, they're digging in to The Spaghetti Incident, which pleases me enormously, because I really *really* loved that record.
With hindsight, TSI was blatantly a contractual obligation record, but I was 13 when it came out, and it introduced me to a whole world of punk I had no idea about.
Their cover of Ain't It Fun is bleak and wonderful.
Oh. New GnR.
This song was released two years ago, but features the kind of lyrics I would have enjoyed as a teenage boy 30 years ago.
To be clear, those lyrics are Not Great.
Fuck yeah! Slash going full on guitar hero with a double neck guitar.
Also, Civil War is a fucking great track. The lyrics are somewhat on the nose, but it carries a message worth repeating.
It's no legs guitar, as used by KG from Tenacious D, mind.
Does anyone want to mention to them that the war in Ukraine isn't actually a civil war though. That's literally kinda the point. Ukraine isn't Russia.
YES!
You Could Be Mine is a Fucking Great track (if you ignore half the lyrics*). The musicianship and production on it are absolutely phenomenal.
FUN FACT
If Robert Patrick had had his way, his brother's band would have featured on the Terminator 2 soundtrack instead of this. Sadly, Filter were still a year or so away from releasing Hey Man, Nice Shot, so didn't get their break then.
*are you sensing a theme here?
What's kind of a headfuck is them finishing each song, and my head starts humming the next song on whichever album it's from. I know those albums inside out, so it's kinda spinning me out that they're not playing them in album order, even though that makes no sense.
And now they're playing the song that most people have gone to see them for.
I've always thought Sweet Child was kinda dull. I mean, it's fine, and fun to sing along to , but compared to literally everything else on Appetite... it's ...ok...
But hey, it pays their mortgages, so fair play. I could never write a track so catchy.
Oh, and this is your periodic reminder that Slash was born in London, thus we can rightly claim him as One Of Us.
Somebody once said that the worst thing to ever happen to music was Axl being allowed to have a piano on his records.
And while I don't necessarily agree, I understand the feeling behind the comment.
Yeah. Axl can't sing November Rain any more.
No shade, btw. The guy's 61 ffs, and let's be honest, he's lived a rock star's life. I can't sing it, and I'm 42 with a sedate life behind me.
@DJDarren You could be mine video was the best trailer for Terminator 2. The official one gave away everything.
And yeah when I heard the track I was 9 or 10 instant love with GNR
