This is a fascinating moment with a true global news event. I made the decision to not follow it on #Twitter. #Mastodon has really matured (or I have improved federation) as #Russia coverage here is now world class with excellent posts, up to date footage and even a few real journalists.

@Setok It has been really exciting to see how much is available over here. My timeline is flashing by quicker than I can read everything, this is the first time I've really followed a breaking news event here closely and it works well.

@picard my instance isn’t quite that connected (that’s the real problem here: not that there isn’t material, but it’s hidden behind federation). Still, getting good content.

@Setok Indeed, it can take a while for instances to connect up to various places. I often boost things just to help spread the federation where I can.

@picard also just a connection doesn’t help. Someone on your instance has to be following the person for you to even see it in a hashtag search.
