Why do you Art?
Lance, Enjoying Copious Pollen@Curator It's been suggested that the photos I make aren't art. And maybe they're not. But I photograph because I have to document things in the world I see. I love the act of making photos.

@moragperkins It's a long story, but it was a comment in a mass email from the director of a local arts organization I belonged to.
It may not have been directed solely at me, but it was clear I was at least among the intended audience. I just wish they'd made the submission guidelines explicit so I didn't waste time and money on printing and framing.
I didn't bother renewing my membership after that event. 🤷‍♂️

@colorblindcowboy @moragperkins Apparently they don't like straight photography, but that wasn't anywhere stated in the entry guidelines.

@colorblindcowboy @moragperkins My term, not theirs. What she said was something like: We're not looking for random photos you took while walking around.
In other words, they apparently wanted stuff that mashed up different media, or prints you peed on or some such thing. I'm not really sure exactly what they wanted. All I know is a carefully edited photo wasn't it.

Even if it’s not the style they’re after there are plenty of polite and encouraging ways to say it. This ain’t it!
You’re definitely better off without them, in settings where you skills are nurtured and encouraged rather than just dismissed out of hand.
Jim Graves@moragperkins @analogfusion @colorblindcowboy There's nothing wrong with photographs taken whilst wandering around. I do it all the time. If an organisation wants a certain style for an exhibition, they should make it clear instead of being snarky about it.
@Jim_Graves @analogfusion @colorblindcowboy exactly. About 90% of my work is “photographs taken while wandering around”! And wait until they hear about Henri Cartier Bresson
