Art
Why do you Art?

This is getting a lot of responses, so I'm not going to boost everyone from the thread, but have a look at the replies.

Art in unison; we create because we must, for joy, for catharsis, for ourselves, for others.

@Curator We do what we must because we can?
@Curator I like gay, so I make more gay
@Curator I haven't in a while, but when I do, it's because it makes me happy 🥺
@Curator Shouldn't it be "Whyfore Art Thou?" :p

@JubalBarca @Curator

Oh my goodness, it all makes sense!

'Thou art' = 'you are'.

'You art' = 'you create art'.

In a sort of 'I think therefore I am' kind of way, 'I create art because I am'. Or simply:

I art.

🤯

I art.
Iart.
Yart?

I haven't had much sleep.

@Curator Because it's fun to create shapes and make them colourful
@Curator Because it's fun. Creating and imagining is fun. It is like giving life to ideas and putting a part of your soul inside them.

@Curator To show the world what we look like inside, casting aside the vessel that is our human body.
To express how we feel inside
To show how we view the world and how our own world looks.

But aside from those things:
It makes us happy. Art is a very strong hyperfixation for us it seems, and it genuinely makes us content and happy.

@Curator
That said, it wasn't always this way. We only recently healed from trauma that blocked our ability to draw at the skill level we used to be at 6 years ago

And since then it has been absolutely amazing

@Curator Because I want to be a billionaire. And this is the easiest way to get there. Heh.

@Curator Something has to keep me sane, after all.

(Shitposting aside - I enjoy it. Simple as that.)

@Curator

Because it is desperate to get out, and the artist's job is to help it get out.

@FediThing @Curator

This would work as a response for my fedi art shitpost   https://toots.hwl.li/@jase/110593255737005805

@Curator
1) make marks on paper = good
2) show made things to people, people like = good
@Curator so i can sleep peacefully at night.

@Curator Art makes me feel more myself. I can express my feelings more openly, more deeply, more real.

It also takes me and my mind to a better and nicest place than the so called "real life", just to be happier, just to feel fine, to be fine.

@Curator I want to share the stories and impressions in my head with others, make their day a little bit happier or more exciting, but I don't like using words for this.

Haven't done this in a while though, I tend to get stuck in preperations and then never finish things. 😅

@Curator It's my way of communication. There are these characters and worlds living rent free in my head - and I want others to see them as well - so I have to draw the comics I guess, because no one else is doing it. |D
@Curator "We do not do this thing because it is permitted. We do it because we have to. We do it because we are compelled." Allan Moore
@Curator I have no words, or images, or thoughts, to describe why. I have just words and images and thoughts to offer.

@Curator this one has always puzzled me. i don’t do it because i want people to look at it

well that’s a lie - i’d LOVE IT if people paid attention and like what i do but it’s not the itch that causes the scratch

all i can say is that sometimes when i’m looking at something i’ve done i realise there was a reason i put that red line there, or juxtaposed this image with that and then i sit back and realise: “ah, so that’s what i was thinking about”

@Curator …🤷‍♀️ because I can?

I’m actually not sure! But I’m happy that I do

@Curator Because often it's the only thing I can do
@Curator because I enjoy it, because I feel better for doing it, because at the end there's usually something I can listen to later and say "I did that", and maybe so I can share a little of myself with the rest of the world.
@Curator I art because to not art would mean death.

@Curator

Because I cannot not Art.

It is my truest way of interacting with the Universe.

@Curator It is an escape route. A door to other worlds, a gateway to people who don't share the language but who understand what's in an image. I would rather lose the ability to speak than the ability to draw.
@Curator I can offer my love and protection to those closest to me, but to the wider world I don't have much to offer other than a splash of color and light when the world seems dark 🌈 🎨
@Curator Because I need colors in my life! When everything seems gay and dark I do Art.
@Curator It's been suggested that the photos I make aren't art. And maybe they're not. But I photograph because I have to document things in the world I see. I love the act of making photos.

@analogfusion WHO SAID THAT? I just want to talk to them

*readies the big foam cluebat*

@moragperkins It's a long story, but it was a comment in a mass email from the director of a local arts organization I belonged to.

It may not have been directed solely at me, but it was clear I was at least among the intended audience. I just wish they'd made the submission guidelines explicit so I didn't waste time and money on printing and framing.

I didn't bother renewing my membership after that event. 🤷‍♂️

@analogfusion what an arse. Yeah you need to be in places where you are valued!
@analogfusion @moragperkins That doesn’t sound right.
@colorblindcowboy @moragperkins Apparently they don't like straight photography, but that wasn't anywhere stated in the entry guidelines.
@analogfusion @moragperkins WTF is straight photography? Sounds like a club I wouldn’t be a part of and wouldn’t have me as a member.

@colorblindcowboy @moragperkins My term, not theirs. What she said was something like: We're not looking for random photos you took while walking around.

In other words, they apparently wanted stuff that mashed up different media, or prints you peed on or some such thing. I'm not really sure exactly what they wanted. All I know is a carefully edited photo wasn't it.

@analogfusion @moragperkins Ohhhhh.... “fīn art photographé.”
@Curator Art isn't available in this moment, would you like to leave a message in Art's voicemail?

@Langile
*waits for the beep*

"Hi, when Art pls?"
