It’s hard to believe but—no, actually, it’s not hard to believe. Justice Alito, palling around and accepting private junkets from billionaires with business before the Court? Another scandal rocks SCOTUS. I break it down in today’s piece. https://statuskuo.substack.com/p/scotus-has-alito-problem?sd=pf
SCOTUS Has Alito Problem

In some ways it was bound to happen. For months the public focus has been on Justice Clarence Thomas. Per excellent reporting by ProPublica, Thomas had secretly accepted myriad unreported gifts from billionaire-with-an-archvillain’s-name Harlan Crow: lavish private flights, luxury trips, years of private tuition for a family member, and money for the sale and renovation of his mother’s home (where she still lives rent free). With all that rotting out in the open, it was naturally time to look at the records and practices of other justices who seem to operate outside ethical rules.

@jaykuo And somehow, it's always the conservative/GOP judges. Hmm ...
@sharonecathcart no surprise. All those Federalist Society hacks have had their integrity surgically removed.
@jaykuo of course the WSJ leak was Aleakto. Who else would it be? This US court fish is really starting to stink as it rots from the head down. Auto and Thomas both need to be removed from the Court over this, though of course nobody realistically expects that they will be.
@jaykuo Republicans don't believe in democracy. They believe in white male Christian oligarchy.
@jaykuo are there no ethics rules in the Supreme Court? Genuine question. As a European I cannot comprehend how these people are not removed immediately.
I am a civil servant for the European Commission, I cannot even accept a bottle of wine.
@jaykuo I really wish they'd not published the article and written the paper to ask what in the world Alito was talking about and if maybe he was senile and no longer should be on the bench.

@jaykuo

Damnitall why don't billionaires ever want to take me on vacation. I'm much cuter than Sam Alito.

No subs tho

@jaykuo he wrote an oped before the article even came out? That's a whole new level of excusatio non petita, accusatio manifesta

@jaykuo

No progressives on the compromised SCOTUS team yet.

Makes one think that only conservative justices are sleazy, lying grifters.

Americans bend over and take it again....

@jaykuo @georgetakei Studies have shown that pharma salespeople giving cheap pens to doctors often influence doctors prescribing medication. And expensive vacations for judges are in an entirely different ballgame, I don’t see how they don’t influence judges.

Perhaps judges need to be restricted to having less wealthy friends.

@jaykuo trying to think the last time a republican justice on SCOTUS actually recused themselves over a conflict of interest (and the democrat appointed justices have recused themselves in the past).

@jaykuo 😎 Actually it's pretty clear:

All it takes is a *Lex FedSoc* — No jurist/attorney/judge in any way affiliated with the "Federalist Society" shall be admitted to/ seated in a federal judge's/justice's/SCOTUS justice's office.
=> 14th Amendment Section 3.

The "FedSoc's" ongoing concerted attack on SCOTUS precedents based on the Reconstruction Amendments (especially the 14th Amendment) should be proof enough, that abovementioned steps are vital & necessary.

@jaykuo They get so much salary, so many perks, but they want more. Greedy, stupid and amoral - and yet this shit thinks he knows best how to control our bodies
