The plea deal by Hunter Biden with federal prosecutors demonstrates that no one, not even the president’s son, can escape accountability. Now do the former president and his family.
@georgetakei
It is also worth noting that he did not claim that everything was fine, he had a right to all that stuff, and he was being unfairly targeted.
Instead, he accepted responsibility. That matters.
@n1xnx @georgetakei
Nor did Biden claim he was the victim of a witch hunt and use the case to raise campaign money or a standing army against democracy

@RnDanger
Damn, shoulda thrown a few more bucks to his dad's campaign like I did when Citrus Caligula was indicted. Not too late, still might.

@n1xnx @georgetakei

@georgetakei

1. Absolutely concur - and if the existing president's own son can be convicted, why should a former president be able to avoid accountability for his actions?

2. I do wish that Biden would have taken a more hands-off approach. Hunter has seems rather rotten (corrupt?) in his business dealings for years, so when Biden publicly proclaims his son's innocence, it's not just a concerned father speaking, but POTUS.

@CarlG314 @georgetakei could it all be an elaborate deception by Russia ?
@CarlG314 @georgetakei They found nothing to indict him on in regards to his business dealings. He has 2 misdemeanors for not paying taxes and a gun charge he will plea down to no jail time. Basically he is Wesley Snipes with a handgun he shouldn't have had. He may be an asshole, but nothing like the Republicans wanted him to be.
@georgetakei and yet I can’t shake the feeling that right will collectively choose to ignore this and claim everything is a political witch-hunt against republicans and the government refuses to look at democrats.
@wetlandman @georgetakei Of course that is what they will do... Behavior like that is the cornerstone of their party.
@georgetakei the problem is that Trump believes he is right, in all actions and words. As a result of a lack of self reflection and ego it's not likely even after being found guilty that he will ever admit any wrong doing

@georgetakei

Hunter had the good sense to plead out.

Trump is totally bereft of that sense. Reminds me of an old, old song lyric.

"So we tanned his hide when he died, Clyde, and that's it hanging on the shed!"

@skydog @georgetakei tie me kangaroo down, sport! Now I’m gonna sing that all night!
@georgetakei every tima I see you appearing in my tl I have to think of Georg Trakl. Which is very fine indeed.
@georgetakei
All I want to know abut Hunter Biden's taxes is why isn't Jared in jail for getting 2 billion from the Saudis
@georgetakei Then, and only then, will the demonstration be convincing.
@georgetakei It's almost like we all want people to be held accountable regardless of political stance! What a concept. But why do Republicans not understand that?
@georgetakei So youd be ok if Trump got off on a plea deal too?
@freemo @georgetakei seems fair to me, if he was willing to plead guilty. But he didn't, at least not in the indictments so far.

@strawd @georgetakei

Wellnplea bargins are reached before the plea. So they offer a generous deal that is garunteed if they plea guilty.

Was he offered a deal with no jail time or significant consequences for a guilty plea? As far as i know they made no such offer.

@freemo @georgetakei no idea. It's hard to picture Trump admitting guilt even if the offer was there, but I guess it's possible.

Here's what I could find about his pubic stance on the matter:

> Trump predicted he would not be convicted and said he did not anticipate taking a plea deal, though he left open the possibility of doing so β€œwhere they pay me some damages.”

https://www.politico.com/news/2023/06/10/trump-vows-to-stay-in-the-race-even-if-convicted-00101403

So I guess he would plead guilty if DOJ paid him money, which sounds like a ridiculous stipulation to me. Anyway I don't see any immediate evidence of unfairness.

Trump vows to stay in the race even if convicted

β€œI’ll never leave,” he tells POLITICO.

POLITICO

@strawd @georgetakei

Yea its certainly hard picturing Trump admitting fault.

I also have no reason to think Trump is treated unfairly in his trials. If anything i think Hunter Biden got off too easy.

@georgetakei

After 4 years of investigating federal crimes due to election fraud, the shelve it and decided that documents are the way to go.

Just get him with something, please!

@georgetakei I for one welcome the sudden interest Republican politicians have found in gun control.

@georgetakei

As accountability should be, impartial.

Jamie

@georgetakei I can't WAIT for DEMONRATS to call for Rioting and Protesting over this DEEP STATE ACT AGAINST THEM!

What do you mean we won't do that because we aren't in a Cult?

@georgetakei as all things should be
@georgetakei
A good comparison to show this is at least as harsh as the standard penalty for similar crimes... is the civil penalties imposed on Roger Stone for far worse tax crimes. In addition, prosecuting a drug addict for lying on a gun application is almost unheard of
@georgetakei We are all products of our environment, and we subsequently make decisions based on who we become.
Hunter should pay for his misdemeanors, and Trump should pay for his felonies.

@georgetakei

yes, and the Repubs come out swinging saying that this just proves that AG Merrick is playing favorites.
Hey, assholes, the prosecuting atty was a trump appointee who started on Hunter in 2017....under BILL BARR. Gosh you guys are so stupid!!

@georgetakei
When their son makes a mistake...
Biden: I love my son and am proud he is on the road to recovery and I'll love and support him.
Trump: You know very well, his mother raised him. I didn't have much input. Some very bad people, evil even, are lying about him. And if he DOES have a drug problem, he was set up!! Fake news!
