Looking for recommendations for split mechanical keyboards with hot swappable switches and as close to a traditional TKL key cap layout. Seems hard to find, but I want to be able to continue to use my switch and key cap collection. Closest I can find is this, but no hot swap https://cloudnineergo.com/products/cloud-nine-ergotkl-ergonomic-split-mechanical-keyboard #mechanicalkeyboard #mechanicalkeyboards
Cloud Nine ErgoTKL Ergonomic Split Mechanical Keyboard

#Keychron K11 is the perfect set of compromises. This thing is fantastic! Even got it tented in the cheap. #mechanicalkeyboard #mechanicalkeyboards. Thanks for all the recommendations!

@komish

I love my ZSA moon lander.

Swappable switches, split dual and left-only modes. The Platform accessory is very nice.

You'll have to bring your own caps if you want an exotic layout, but it's programmable with layers and tapdance.

@ahigginscassidy I thought I’d go this route but the lack of arrow keys plus completely non standard layout ends up being a huge downer for me. I’ve got quite a few cap sets that are oriented around traditional layouts that would be useless if I sent this route. Otherwise it is perfect. That and the ErgoDox.

@komish I think the Dygma Raise checks all those boxes.

@carlwgeorge full size right shift is a huge plus!! This is missing arrow keys thing. I don’t mind a function layer, but having used a split 60% before (Mistel Barroco), it gets tedious trying to do key chords in an editor along with arrow keys in a function layer.
@komish keeb.io has a few options in different sizes you might check out.
@petejohanson was literally browsing it just now. Lots of options, most checking all the boxes except a full size right shift key. I’m thinking I’m gonna end up having to compromise somewhere, sadly. Or just not upgrade
@komish good luck!
@petejohanson
UHK?
There are also nice split with classic layout at ymdkey.com

I was wandering around my notes and files and I've found a few interesting links related to our favourite #mechanicalkeyboards and so, here you are: * Mechanical Keyboard and where to find them: https://github.com/help-14/mechanical-keyboard * Buying keyboards and keyboard components from EU: https://gist.github.com/henfiber/a17c7b2a7053473fe37b1a6f80e58efd * Awesome-Keebs: https://github.com/EanNewton/Awesome-Keebs * Split Keyboards (maintained by /u/dnlglsn) : Keyboards: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19-rTWbp8SCKdZFByPZu3RT8NSF8vVddDe8WL6R6b1qQ/htmlview#gid=0 No #keycap has been injured in creating this list.

@AAMfP @petejohanson UHK suffers the same problem as the Dygma, no arrow keys 😞 the links are appreciated
@komish
Yup. Same for me: I need arrows. If you want more "extreme" things, check also on Falbatech. My next keeb will surely arrive from there.
@petejohanson
@AAMfP @petejohanson I got by for a long time with function layers but it’s just not practical anymore for me. Back in the day, pre hot swap, I had a ton of keyboards with various switches. So glad to for hot swap. I’ve sold most of my fleets and am using a cheap CIY which has been plenty. Just looking to fill the ergo gap. The CIY might go too, tbh.
@komish you could look at the keychron Q11 if you want something prebuilt. If you are happy to build, I know of the lulu and some hard to come by other ones there is also the dygma raise but it uses custom firmware rather than something like QMK. https://www.keychron.com/products/keychron-q11-qmk-custom-mechanical-keyboard

@Danwwilson This actually looks like a fantastic option.

If I'm going to have to compromise, then this looks like the right blend of compromises (right shift is short, bottom-right modifiers are 1u).

I'd need to look into what tenting options I'd have for something like that. I'm sure the community has figured out a solution already.

I just came across the KBO-5000 which seems like it lets me get the right combination of right-hand modifier sizes but gives up hot swap. https://keeb.io/collections/kbo-5000-split-staggered-80-keyboard

KBO-5000 - Split Staggered 80% Keyboard

@Danwwilson Given that the KBO-5000 is out of stock, Maybe the Q11 is the right choice. Thanks for the rec.
@komish starting splits you cannot go wrong with the Corne, best entry point imo, tons of keymaps.
