If the lawyer is not put to an unreasonable financial hardship by virtue of the client not paying, the client not paying is not, by itself, sufficient grounds to grant a withdrawal motion. If your client just flat-out will not take your advice and insist on pursuing a legal option you are certain will damage their position, that would be grounds.

Doug Baker - Elbows Up! 🇨🇦@Popehat What is particularly interesting is that this suggests Trump refused to agree with him leaving: counsel leave all the time, but usually with the client agreeing through either a "Notice of Intention to Act In Person", or a "Notice of Change of Counsel". Looks like Trump didn't do either. Court-ordered removal is only the last resort.
