Lonnie123reddit hasnt found a way to make profit without paying people who run their site for free, there is zero chance they start now.
If they had said, hey. We are are going to remove api access so we can bring in substantial advertising revenue, to pay moderators and creators.
I would have probably been ok with it.
Meta and YouTube did similar.
