That Vietnam/Watergate era was no less chaotic than today. Luckily, the rule of law prevailed in spite of powerful efforts to subvert it.

Daniel Ellsberg, Who Leaked the Pentagon Papers, Is Dead at 92

Deeply disturbed by the accounting of American deceit in Vietnam, he approached The New York Times. The disclosures that followed rocked the nation.

The New York Times

@mimarek1 Hold your horses: Ford kicked the Rule of Law's ass by pardoning Nixon only one month after the release of the "smoking gun" tape & Nixon's resignation.

Ford's pardon was certainly within his presidential powers as successor of "tricky Dick" β€” but also within the scope of actions, that can seriously be called Obstruction of Justice.

No chief magistrate (/president) should ever hold any power to potentially obstruct justice.
Which also applies to ordering legal opinions, that a priori immunize presidential seat occupants, who have commuted crimes & are inevitably committed to go on committing crimes.
