In case you're wondering, the commonly sold orangish flower milkweed is mediterranean and NOT native to SoCal. If you have that, you should whack it to the ground every fall to prevent pathogens from surviving and reinfecting monarchs the following season.

CA Native milkweed has narrow leaves and a light blue ish flower. It dies back on its own each winter.
