As the Reddit war rages on, community trust is the casualty

@arstechnica I’m quite liking https://lemmy.world/ for the same reasons I like Mastodon vs Elon’s World of Hate.
Lemmy.World - A generic Lemmy server for everyone to use.

Lemmy

@Drunemeton I'm also liking it. Been checking daily. 3 days clean off reddit.
@Pixlbabble “3 days clean”? 🤣😂🤣 We can do this! 👍❤️💪
@Drunemeton @Pixlbabble Yehhh Lemmy crew let's go!

@dryroastedlemon @Pixlbabble I feel that “Lemmy let’s go,” coming from a lemon, might have a certain bias to it…

But I’ll not plant the seed of doubt and become bitter about it, instead I’ll squeeze it for the wholesome support it contains, and raise a glass to cheer on the Lemmyverse!

#toomuch ?

@Drunemeton @Pixlbabble Haha, no affiliation here! Just your friendly neighborhood lemon :)

I have read some concerns on Lemmy, but well... I guess I'll do some more investigating. For now it's just avoiding Reddit for me. Kbin also looks pretty cool, but it's been kind of slow for me.

@dryroastedlemon @Pixlbabble Concerns? Do tell if you’re okay sharing…

@Drunemeton @Pixlbabble Mostly just stuff on how it's not really private, but I'm of the mind that once something's on the internet (especially on social media) you've already thrown complete privacy out the window.

Also some weird stuff about the authors, but that's just something I saw other people say and I'm not comfortable simply parrotting.

Also the dev team is tiny (two people I think?). I hope it'll expand a little more soon - it's probably necessary with the user influx.

@dryroastedlemon @Pixlbabble Thank you! Nothing surprising or gross there, so Viva le Lemmy!

@Drunemeton @Pixlbabble

Yeah, and I also think it's important to remember that the benefit of being federated is that the views of the developer don't have to match the views of the instance hoster. For now I'm pretty happy with Lemmy though!

@dryroastedlemon @Drunemeton
Reminds me of logging into different game servers with their own rules and tweaks to the game.
@Pixlbabble @Drunemeton
Dang. I don't know if reading that makes me feel good, nostalgic or old 😂 Maybe all three of them!
@dryroastedlemon @Drunemeton
Dunno because Counter Strike is still running lol.

@dryroastedlemon @Drunemeton @Pixlbabble

Two people on #GitHub.

1️⃣ #dessalines who manages the #Patreon
2️⃣ https://github.com/Nutomic #Nutomic who, wait.........
His look! I'm a 9 year old who now thinks he's a terrorist! AH, #ParentsHelpMe! Come to my room, there's a terrlorist on screen.

...That is gonna scare some kids believing he's a #communist or #CheGuevara or a #revolutionary who has come to do a #Revolution against #Reddit. #OpenSourceReddit, where's the #DMCA, sorry I meant my meds.

@dryroastedlemon

I've already #SoldMyPrivacy and I've #SoldMySoul.

I belong to you now and everyone else on the internet and #WaybackMachine

@dryroastedlemon @Drunemeton

I've been enjoying it. There's this feeling I have I haven't felt in a years. Similar to old internet and the way you find new internet homes and yet have cross network communication. It is by first fediverse dipping, so there's that bias.

@Pixlbabble @Drunemeton

I definitely feel that. With that also comes a bit of awkwardness where sometimes there's just nothing for me to see and I just close it again. I'm so used to algorithms feeding me stuff to keep me engaged that I've forgotten what it's like to pick and choose my own content, ha!

It does feel refreshing. Kind of like a "dopamine detox" and in general a less excited experience. In a good way!

@dryroastedlemon @Drunemeton
It's like taking a digital hike to new locations you never trekked before.
@Pixlbabble @Drunemeton
Indeed. I'm still learning, though. My feeds are currently like a ghosttown, mostly because I find it kind of difficult to find content I like. But I'll get there.
