Do you want to find interesting accounts to follow on the Fediverse? There are lots of ways to do it, have a look at this guide to all the methods:

It can take a bit longer and be a bit more effort to get connected on the Fediverse as there's no algorithm, but the connections tend to be more meaningful once they happen.

How do I discover accounts to follow on Mastodon and the Fediverse? | Fedi.Tips – An Unofficial Guide to Mastodon and the Fediverse

An unofficial guide to using Mastodon and the Fediverse

@feditips Just tell me where are all of the people with pet rats. I saw tons of them on tw*tter but I can't find any here.

@NIH_LLAMAS

Have you tried the hashtag #rats? I just found one in the first result.

@feditips Not nearly enough of them. Also #RatsOfMastodon, but again too few compared to #DogsOfMastodon or #CatsOfMastodon which will give you dozens per day.
@NIH_LLAMAS @feditips On a semi-related note, is it possible to follow hashtags on Mastodon using the official app? Sorry if it's a dumb question, I'm really new here

@bbaster @feditips I can't find a way to do it on the official app.

I use Tusky for my app. After I tap on a hashtag and see a list of matching posts, there is a person icon in the upper right with a + next to it. Tapping that will follow the tag, and change the + to X (ie, tap again to unfollow). The website works similarly.

@NIH_LLAMAS @feditips Thank you so much, this app seems to be quite good! Do you know if hashtag follows work also with desktop Mastodon and other mobile apps or just Tusky?

@bbaster @NIH_LLAMAS

Hashtag following is part of core Mastodon, it works on the website and all apps that include this feature.

It's not on the official Android app yet though, I'd highly recommend using Tusky instead of the official Android app. Tusky is better in so many ways, and has been around a lot longer. (I think they should have made Tusky the official app instead of developing their own.)

@feditips @NIH_LLAMAS Yes, it works for me.

A month ago a developer said they're working on a redesign and they'll implement new features after it's finished (I honestly think that the official app is one of the most modern looking Android apps, but it's their own app).

There's an official app fork named Megalodon which supports hashtag follows, will try it out soon.

Also wish following showed posts from less popular places more frequently, now my home feed is literally 90% cats...
