Steam Client Now Lets You Enable Hardware Acceleration on Linux - sh.itjust.works

Looks like it's still not recommended to be enabled if you use Nvidia and X.

I recently swapped my Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti for an AMD 7900 XTX, and I can say two things:

  • On my Fedora machine, I've been streaming with hardware acceleration on X11 since 2017 with minimal issues. So minimal in fact that I wasn't sure I wanted to switch to AMD...

  • Now that I have switched; I'm impressed. I generally hope for the best and prepare for the worst, but AMD solidly proved me wrong. So wrong in fact that all my previous issues or complaints have just simply disappeared.

This isn't to say that AMD is perfect; the VAAPI performance is not as good as Nvidia's NVENC / NVDEC support, but it is more than good enough for me to truly be impressed.

Is it just me, or this update is still not up for opensuse?
Oh, I had to manually check for updates
