@pixelfed Oh no, another app who is implementing this useless features only a handful people use in other apps.

And I don't even ask why, because the answer would be: "Other do it, we do it, too!"

Why even bothering to create a picture and upload it, if it gets deleted after 24 hours?

The picture can't be interesting at all! It's just another feature to say "It's appreciated to puke into the internet".

What a waste of resources!

btw. I thought #fediverse apps wanted to be a little bit more different from the data collecting originals and it's about the people and the social aspect and not about mindlessly consuming...

@utopify_org @pixelfed I am managing public accounts on Insta. Stories have two advantages. Being time-limited they are good for daily posts that get deleted once they are irrelevant. This is much better than plastering a feed with info that needs to be deleted manually. Time saver. Stories are a the primary way to reach followers. While feed posts are good for general long-term content that is more discoverable and permanent beyond your community.

@utopify_org @pixelfed They serve different paces of communication that creative entities around the globe are used to. To have the same functionality on a federated network is a good thing, IMO. Should we copy everything from Metagram? Hell, no!

Pls copy: stories, highlights, videos, URL stickers, countdowns, mention stickers
Pls don't: The dopamine hellscape called reels.

@yuliyan @pixelfed What are url and mention stickers? And countdowns?

Sorry to ask stupid questions, but I have never used Insta.

@utopify_org Sure, so url stickers are basically buttons that you can place within a story. They contain a URL that leads to some external content. Sharing a link but only for 24 hours.

Mention stickers are the same but instead of a URL they contain the handles of other profiles. Good for directing attention towards them. The mentioned profiles usually can share the story containing their handle in their own story.

@[email protected] stickers can be signed up to and remind you when the countdown is close to its end. Good for events.

@yuliyan I can't even imagine what all of this is used for and how useful it can be?

The only thing I can imagine is an influencer who is giving away stuff, forcing others to follow other accounts and doing artificial shortage, to stress out people.

@utopify_org While this is an existing cliché, there is a lot more that can be done via stories. You can share videos up to 60 seconds, clickable feed posts, two-option votes, gradual scale votes, ask questions and share selected replies, quizzes ....The options are there. It's definitely not only used for influencer marketing. We are running a hyperlocal web radio. Most of our interaction with the community on Instagram works via stories, not gonna lie.

@yuliyan The harder I try to understand the world, the stranger it gets.

Maybe I am just too old and can't understand it anymore, even if I try.

@utopify_org It's a matter of diving into it, either because you want to or because you need to. A system and its rules. All that happened gradually on my side. In the end it's important to reflect which media are good for yourself and which are not. Again, having options is key.
