Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal - Balloon

@ZachWeinersmith there's a neo-cyberpunk to be written about dystopian ideas of the future being acted out in a differently-dystopian narrative present, but I've never gotten past the scene where the patient accuses his therapist of being a bot because the potted plant in the corner doesn't look real, & she tells him it's plastic & please get back on topic.
@FeralRobots @ZachWeinersmith that's a good scene. You should keep going. What does the patient do when not in therapy?
@bezorp
the original still very underbaked idea is sort of a 'by day one life, in VR another', with the idea that his real life is actually pretty good & his VR life is hell, but he literally can't tell them apart anymore. I could never really figure out where the heart of it was, though. IIRC I'd been fiddling in SecondLife & thinking about Robert Linhart's _The Assembly Line_ (young communist union organizer gets job at Citroen factory). (This is an OLD trunk idea.)

one of my challenges w/ideas like that is dislike of "high-tech low-touch tango"*/naive-Luddism ideas. I *am* a Luddite, but I like to think not a naive one. (The Luddites used some fantastic technology, it just wasn't scaled to funnel profits to an elite.) So while it feels clever, I'm not sure where the idea goes, for me. (Hence, thinking about Linhart.)
