#redditmigration #reddit

One of my friends is a mod of a very large subreddit that went private for the blackout. Last night she received a message saying that she had been stripped of her moderator rights and the subreddit was taken public again. To be very clear, the subreddit members had specifically voted in favor of going private.

It seems like reddit will stoop lower and lower to try and break the blackout. I'm seething.

@Tsutsuku Which sub-reddit?
@yoasif
subreddit is u/tumblr and u/taytay_is_god is the moderator who was stripped.
@yoasif
It looks like a lot of the comments that taytay made explaining what was going on have been deleted but https://www.reddit.com/r/tumblr/comments/12f8mwz/moderator_announcement_all_bot_posts_and_comments/ shows some of her activity as a mod, https://www.reddit.com/r/tumblr/comments/147g2b8/i_dont_know_if_we_are_already_but_we_need_to_shut/ is where she confirmed that the subreddit was going to go private, and this is the poll showing the community decision
Moderator Announcement: all bot posts and comments will be removed and all bot accounts will be perma-banned.

@Tsutsuku
It looks like it's private again, did they change something?
@Aissen
Yeah she said that it went back to private ~3hrs ago, but she's still de-modded.

@Tsutsuku @yoasif I believe the story there is that there was a fairly inactive top mod that was a reddit admin, and they went scorched earth with the rest of the mod team and re-opened the sub.
@jimmyhiggs337 @yoasif
Nope, Taytay was incredibly active on there and got de-modded anyways. So at least in this instance, activity was not the reason.
@Tsutsuku @yoasif you got what I said backwards
@Tsutsuku @yoasif inactive mod was top mod, the top mod after a long time if being inactive, kicked them out even though they were active
