Suicide Hotlines Promise Anonymity. Dozens of Their Websites Send Sensitive Data to Facebook – The Markup

The Markup found many sites tied to the national mental health crisis hotline transmitted information on visitors through the Meta Pixel

My takeaways from this:
1) Meta gonna Meta. That company is irreformable.

2) This sort of privacy pollution needs to be outlawed — not regulated — outlawed entirely, with extinction-level penalties for violations.

Having to defend ourselves against this type of intrusive surveillance instead of making it flat out illegal is like allowing them to dump toxic waste into the drinking water supply and then telling us we need to buy water filters.
