I warned people years ago in my Tedx talk. There will be climate-change related FAMINES in places that never knew them before.

"After the news of historic anticipated wheat failures in Kansas, farmers in Alberta, Canada, are now warning of "zero wheat production." Soil moisture is so low, crops are dying in the ground. "It’s something that we’ve never experienced before."" https://globalnews.ca/news/9761043/dry-spring-southern-albertan-farmers-zero-production/

Extremely dry spring leaves southern Albertan farmers on the road to ‘zero production’

With little to no precipitation since mid April in areas south of Calgary,  some farmers are already predicting crop losses.

Global News
@JohnShirley2023 Maybe they could benefit from dry land farming techniques used in Australia?
@anne_twain There are all the bizarre temperature swings too. I live in a place with a short cold growing season, that’s how I pick seeds. Our official last frost date is May 15, but we had days in the 90s Fahrenheit in May. Then days in the 80s. Then back in the 50s and 60s. Just getting seeds to germinate is a challenge right now, and then not to fry. @JohnShirley2023

@anne_twain @JohnShirley2023 We've got all the dry-land farming know how we need in Canada.

Doesn't matter when there isn't soil moisture resources to conserve. To wit, the reason many producers seed winter wheat in the fall is that it emerges early and uses the early spring moisture.. but this year there was none to have and instead the provinces are on fire. Very much like W Aus in a dry year, there just isn't much to be done.

@JohnShirley2023 who could have seen it coming 🤷‍♂️ @chartier
@brandonscript @JohnShirley2023 @chartier you mean like the #clubofrome who basically predicted this 50 years ago?
@JohnShirley2023 Maybe they can eat their oil.

@keetchey @JohnShirley2023 1/ I’m wondering how well being a climate-change denier is gonna work out for the UCP when the agricultural sector starts to collapse due to it. Farmers aren’t dumb.

The NDP lost the popular vote by a margin of ~150k last month. While mining/oil makes up 2-.83%GDP, vs agriculture’s 1.89, the actual number of voters in each sector is approx 2.5 million.

All the NDP has to do is pick up an extra 6% of the agro voters.

Self-interest may just do it.

@cautionwip @JohnShirley2023
Math is fun....so is Science.
That's a b*tch of a combo for the #ucp
🤓
@keetchey @JohnShirley2023 maybe we (in eu and elsewhere) can agree on ending subsidies for industrial meat production. So many valuable calories get wasted there, eu alone could avoid famine for 10^8-10^9 ppl by this.

@JohnShirley2023
#climatecrisis will impact EVERY ASPECT of our lives, and I don’t think word has gotten out just how drastic and complete the effects will be. We are already feeling it with fires & floods, weather events, enormous expenditures for disasters, mass extinction — and it will only get worse.

DEMAND CLIMATE ACTION!

@JohnShirley2023

#ClimateChange

I believe the real wielders of power believed that the negative effects if climate change would not hit for another several generations and there would be time for them to create their exclusive nirvanas for their families while the riff raff outside died.
