Reminder—if Trump's indictment was meritless every top criminal defense lawyer in America would be scrambling to defend him. It’d be the case of a lifetime.

But instead they're avoiding him like the plague b/c they know he's guilty & refuse to sink with his ship.

US law holds "when accused of a crime an attorney will be provided if you cannot afford one."

Trump may force a change to, "an attorney will be provided if you cannot afford one OR if you are so unethical no one will take your case."

@QasimRashid My gut says that lawyers are happy to work cases with potentially guilty clients as long as they’re paid.

Trump has a certain reputation re: how he pays his lawyers: https://www.salon.com/2021/02/02/trumps-lawyers-quit-after-he-refused-to-pay-3m-in-legal-fees-despite-raising-170m-report/

@metaphase @QasimRashid also, everybody is entitled to a decent defence. That too is an important aspect of the rule of law.

Yes, even the terrible ones.

@A_denie @metaphase @QasimRashid in which case, i hope that he receives the same "decent" defense than the poorest regular defendants receive. Not out of spite (well, not entirely), but to showcase how many defendants never get their chance at a decent defense.
