strong but reasonable response from call of duty this pride season.

this is what corporate allyship looks like

well this exersise in humerious misinterpritation has exploded.

@elizabethveldon

Not misinterpretation. The Verge knew what they were doing with that headline.

@elizabethveldon
Corporations just do this as a marketing strategy. They do not give a shit about anyone's rights, they'll support whatever thing is currently profitable to support.

@dushman i meant the post as a joke, the idea not that a skin was removed but that his actual skin was removed.

i completely agree with you

@elizabethveldon @[email protected] We should never trust the corporations. That they behave this way is a sign that it is unprofitable for them to do otherwise, which is a good thing. What we must fear is when it becomes profitable for them to through us under the bus, because that a sign society is moving in the wrong direction. And right now that is happening in some places.
@toni @dushman yup, they will only care if it makes them money to do so
@elizabethveldon @[email protected] The skinning the homophobe joke was very funny though and all the seriousness asside, I don't think we should lose sight of that.
@toni @dushman i'm not saying we should flay homophobes but i'm not saying we shouldn't.
@elizabethveldon @[email protected] Just so you can see what this looks like in Calckey, in all its glory...
@toni @dushman yea but would i loose my posting history if i moved?
@elizabethveldon @[email protected] I think Calckey can now import your posting history. It didn't when I did it, so I'd have to check if anyone has done that successfully.
@elizabethveldon @toni
Some fedi backends support moving of posts but it's very hit or miss
@elizabethveldon @toni
Same thing goes for moving your followers
@elizabethveldon @toni
Though at least moving followers usually works okay for the most part. Just depends on whether or not your followers automatically follow accounts after a move.
@elizabethveldon @toni
I've never moved any posts myself though. I run pleroma on my instance here and it doesn't even support that.
@elizabethveldon @toni
Pleroma supports backing up your post history but not migrating it.
@dushman @toni been thinking of moving after @toni spoke to me about this but i'm also a fan of a 'no fuss' lifestyle so...
@elizabethveldon @toni
At the very least moving your follows and followers should work smoothly.
@elizabethveldon @toni
Though if you follow accounts from instances that no longer exist that can cause issues.
@elizabethveldon @[email protected] Before you consider migrating, first check out the site you are considering by creating a test account to see if you like it enough. That way you know whether the 'fuss' is worth it or not.
@[email protected] @elizabethveldon My follower import was very smooth when I left mastodon.lol and joined blahaj.zone, as was my following list. It was also very quick and painless. You can run into issues if any of your followers/followings are on an instance your new instance has blocked. Some users might need to approve your new follow if they aren't open.
@elizabethveldon Tired: Slay

@correlr 'respect everyone or face the blade'

@elizabethveldon

I was very disturbed for a hot second 😅

@elizabethveldon Ramsay Bolton likes this.
@elizabethveldon 'Call of Duty removes'? Who is Call of Duty? If it's Activision Blizzard who publish the game then they ain't really allies of anyone. Bobby Kotick is simply all about the monies. His recent Variety article trying to restore some cred (if he ever had any) was pathetic.
@Carnivius my post is playing on the idea that it was actually his skin that was removed, it's a joke.
@elizabethveldon I know that. I was more concerned The Verge's use of 'call of duty' rather than the awful company behind it. Sorry I wasn't clear. Have a nice day and happy pride month. :)
