Watch Reddit go dark: A website that updates live 24/7 - Lemmy.world

There's also a Twitch stream linked at the top of the page. Join us in sitting around, watching, and chatting as the proverbial shit hits the fan!
if the site won't load for you, the link it twitch.tv/reddark_247!
Fascinating watching that, I'm learning about all sorts of subs I never even knew existed!
So. Much. Porn
so many nsfw/porn related subs (i was watching the stream of it)
I'd guess those subs have a relatively high percentage of mobile users, for... reasons.
I feel like each time a sub goes private there should be a custom final message or something. Like a last post saying "Goodnight and good luck" 😅
So long and thanks for all the memes
Weirdly enough, the website gone dark on me so now I can't see Reddit subs go dark.
Looks like the website crashed!
it's being streamed https://www.twitch.tv/reddark_247
It had too many visitors. There’s like 3k people watching this on twitch right now.
7500 people right now!
@0485919158191 The site just went down for me (~14:05, 2023-06-11), returning 404, now 403 error.
I've been watching this for four hours and can't look away, send help
Looks like the server’s down. Did we break it already?? It was up like half an hour ago.
Every so often I see a sub going public again - any theory on what that means? Mods changing their minds? Reddit installing its own mods?
my guess is a bug. i just watched r/askelectricians go public, but visiting the sub there's no mention of it ever going dark in the first place
It takes some time for Reddit to sync correctly. If they flash it means the mods changed to private!

It's a sync problem, there was a note on the website, it solves itself in a few minutes.

stream here: https://www.twitch.tv/reddark_247

I'll get my popcorn

I think it would be better to watch the stream instead, the website is being hammered and went down a couple of times already.

https://www.twitch.tv/reddark_247

Just gone down again, sadly. Hopefully not for long!

OP can you pin the livestream?

twitch.tv/reddark_247

going to the website redirects you there now (:

The website is redirecting me to the livestream now.

Nevermind, just seen the note—it's because of too much traffic.

Congrats to...checks notes.../r/earfetish for being the 1000th to go dark lol
lmao!
I have learned about so many subreddits that I really wish I hadn't, today 😅
That and seeing old friends go away.
As a longtime subscriber to r/wowthissubexists, nothing surprises me anymore. There's a Lemmy equivalent to that, apparently. I'd link it, but Icm so green here I'd probably foul that up. Worth a search at browse.feddit.de though. That was one way to occasionally discover unique communities I never wore have thought to look for. Hopefully it takes off here too.
Same, I saw it go dark and then wondered what they had over at r/cooldoorbells
I think its broken... or crumbling from the 10s of us trying to load page .P
There's currently 4,5k people watching the twitch stream. I bet there are several times that amount of people trying to access the webpage directly.
Yeah he had to take the site down I think
If most of the subreddits go private, will there be only ads shown on the main web page?
Probably? Otherwise they'd not get any money
r/Satisfyingasfuck to watch!
It has actually blown my mind how many people got behind this movement. Overall the change was not something that would have ruined Reddit for most, but it was enough of a middle finger of the community that we all got riled up for it. I am proud to be a part of this movement!
It might not be affecting the general population of reddit, but I'd hazard to guess that it is affecting the moderators significantly. You only need to piss off the moderators enough for them to take their sub(s) private.
It's scary to watch, there's so many communities.
I'm one of the new Lemmy users, fleeing from the sinking ship that is Reddit. Hi everyone!
Hey I just joined too. Goodbye reddit. No baconreader no reddit for me
in all my time I haven't actually heard anyone else say they use Baconreader

I do!

Well, not right this second.

I used to but switched to relay a few years ago
Holy shit, it went mental there (1am UK time) suddenly about a hundred subs (I think) went dark one after the other!
Yeah a whole bunch signed up for a bot to do it automagically. I was watching/laughing as I set my 3 member sub to private manually
This has really opened my eyes to just how many niche porn subs there are.....maybe too many?
I've already seen a megathread on Lemmy linking to porn communities. It's inevitable
