Since the #Reddit CEO AMA was a colossal disaster, some of the largest subs are not only going dark/private sooner than the widely organized protest on the 12th, they are also staying closed indefinitely.

This is a company that became “the front page of the internet” almost entirely on the backs of volunteer, unpaid labor. Now they’re trying to torpedo everything just to squeeze “a few more commas” out of investors.

Fuck this.

@chartier Reminds me of a great article from @theverge https://www.theverge.com/2023/4/18/23672769/social-media-inevitable-death-monetization-growth-hacks all centralised social media is doomed, they all follow the same path. This is where the fediverse is different I think, these things don't apply.

It will be interesting to watch the future of all this, especially if the rumours of Meta's fediverse-connect Twitter rival is true!
