@mikaelacaron Not while you’re traveling, the battery drain is going to be brutal
@zackva very good point!! Hahaha I need to resist
@mikaelacaron The worst that can happen is that your data on device and on iCloud could get corrupted or deleted.
@mikaelacaron this is a solid dev beta 1. I did an OTA update, and I’ve only had UI bugs. No show stoppers at the moment.
@mikaelacaron Being a longtime systems guy, it’s ingrained in me to never install a beta OS on production hardware. So, my professional vote is no. However, you do have a backup in iCloud and as long as you are technically savvy and willing to accept the risks…eh, go for it!
@kaifasenntao hahaha thanks Kai! I’m of these two mindsets too
@mikaelacaron The worst that could happen is that there will be major wildfires across Canada, a dam explosion in Ukraine, a former president criminally indicted, and a new "nearby" supernova discovered. So I think you’re good. 😛
@mikaelacaron I did it on day one and it has been surprisingly stable. Bera 2 might not be though 😄
@simonbs @mikaelacaron same experience, surprisingly stable and bug-free; haven’t noticed anything so far, not even battery drain or UI issues.
@mikaelacaron I've heard a couple horror stories about iCloud data corruption on iOS betas. Not worth it.
@cary I’ve just heard some of these 🫨🫨
@mikaelacaron I put the new iOS every year just after #wwdc on main device. The only bad thing that ever happened was having no banking for a few months 🤣
@mikaelacaron I have had HUGE data-loss/corruption issues over the years after saying “what's the worst that can happen?” because I ran iOS betas on my main device (up through iOS 13, which finally broke me) and/or on a 2nd device with the same Apple ID. Almost every major iOS version includes changes to iCloud and bugs happen. This year I finally graduated to level 3: installing the beta on a 2nd device _with a different Apple ID_.
@mikaelacaron Also, keep in mind that the first beta is almost never the worst.
@mikaelacaron if main device: Try as late as possible. Last year I think I installed the 3rd beta release and it was pretty good and stable.
