@Peternimmo it's a collective endeavour:)

@Loukas @Peternimmo

the action itself also is an excellent collective endeavour!

@outi @Peternimmo and who can really complain at a private jet getting grounded a while.
@Loukas @outi @Peternimmo The pilots, who are out of a job, and still need to feed their children?

@TimWardCam

that's why the green transition needs to be just. ppl who can't go on doing their carbon-intensive jobs need vocational training to new jobs, and possibly some unemployment benefits in the meantime

atm i'm gravitating towards the idea of universal basic income.

also, to become a private jet pilot in the first place wasn't imho a choice that was made with the objective to serve humanity or the planet, so i'm not very empathetic.

@Loukas @Peternimmo

@outi @TimWardCam @Peternimmo it's like the trolly problem. You can make pilots unemployed or destroy 100 million people in Bangladesh. I'm not sure even Chidi would think that was a hard one #TheGoodPlace
@Loukas @outi @Peternimmo I was just answering the question "who could complain?" - I identified a candidate!

@TimWardCam @Loukas @Peternimmo

true that 😊

i should imagine tho that *doesn't everyone want* climate action, if really pressed - so the airline pilots should / could be happy about this event also.

everyone imo

provided that people realize that they are bound to an evil spell (so to speak) of fossil capitalism, and are just waiting for the fairy godmother to break the spell, wake them up, and release them.

πŸ˜πŸ§šπŸ§β€β™€οΈ

i am half serious really actually.

@outi @Loukas @Peternimmo Gotta feel sorry for some kid who's borrowed Β£100k to pay for their training and is beginning to realise that if the world changes as it "should" they might never earn enough to pay off the debt before their job ceases to exist ...
@TimWardCam @outi @Peternimmo I hope that a lot of that kind of training can be used in other fields.
@Loukas @outi @Peternimmo Well, it's evidence I suppose that you're capable of particular types of learning, but a pilot's licence is a pilot's licence. I've not used my pilot training for anything in real life, other than it gives me a rather enhanced view of safety systems. (And in theory I can get a better idea of the weather.)
@TimWardCam Yes, exactly. I knew a captain of paratroops who ran a consulting firm about safety systems. I think it's a key skill and character quality.

@TimWardCam @Loukas @Peternimmo

i actually can (sometimes) muster some compassion for them too. as with Finnish fur farmers and peat entrepreneurs, bc they've been lied to for decades, and they've been gullible enough to believe. sometimes i'm just pissed. i've gotten this when i was in high school, why didn't they too? there's been so much lies and muting in media, etc, yes, but still... people are what they've been educated for πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
