“Blah blah people are still on Twitter for no good reason,” says the non-black person fitting into this white-ass space with the utmost of ease.
@devinprater @ThisPlaceAgain People keep pointing out that Mastodon isn't very inviting for black people and that there's a lot of racism here, but the only mentioning of black people I've ever seen here is people pointing out that Mastodon isn't very inviting for black people. I've never seen anyone even hint towards the idea that black people aren't welcome here. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but if you want people to see that it's an issue, you have to site your sources.

@dangero
Dan, if somebody says they feel unwelcome and you don’t see why, the correct reaction is not to demand that they cite their sources.

The correct reaction is to ask yourself what you’re missing, and go do your own work.

Demanding labor from somebody in distress isn’t just rude; it’s harmful.

I don’t know how to break this to you, but…you are the asshole here.

@inthehands Paul, I come from a minority community where I have to give out free education to everyone I come across. When I used to be out in about, I would have people talking to me like a child, grab onto me, push me, pull me by my cane like a dog on a leash, and generally treat me like a lesser being. You know what I have to do every single time? Educate people. I have to explain to people what happened to me, why it's wrong, and how it can be corrected. I have to fight for my human rights.
@dangero @inthehands Dan I am genuinly sorry this happens to you. The problem here is, that those people are in the wrong for behaving like that. Not the other marginalized person who is not willing to do the same as you do.
@dangero @inthehands also, there is a difference between discrimination (which you experience) and racism. Both are not ok and hurtful, but racism runs deeper.
I don't know if it is available in english but there is an interactive book Exit racism by german author Tupoka Ogette. She also does wonderful work on instagram which has the german and english version.
