How, for example, does stronger female labor participation 40 years prior to the beginning of the chart in any way affect the trend that job gains over the last 40 years are much larger during Democratic presidencies?

In 1981, the rate was still way lower than in the 2000's.

And US population has exploded, too. (As a 1st approximation for working-age population, which has undergone significant changes as well, e.g. the graying of America.)
These absolute figures are not statistically significant without taking these huge demographic changes into account.
