Oh look, an admission that Alexa listens all the time. No wake word needed.

@michaelwareman

“Hey Alexa isn’t when your smart device starts listening, it’s when it starts responding.”

@michaelwareman it kinda has to listen all the time just to catch a wake word, no?
@michaelwareman They can't hear the wakeup word if the mic isn't hot 24/7. Same with your phone. Amazon has had teams in Russia pouring over the sound recordings to better train Alexa for over a decade now.
@michaelwareman
Define listen. If it is in the device only, I'd not consider that listening. If they can accurately detect a snore without cloud, that is the same as using a wake word.

@michaelwareman

I had a conversation with someone in which I mentioned that Alexa listens to everything you say, all the time, and checks what you just said for the wake word.

Oh no, they said, that can't be.

And I responded, think about it. How else could it possibly work?
