@cvvhrn How was the drive back there? I've been thinking about doing a few of those rougher roads (in my 4wd 4Runner) one of these days.
@ai6yr I I got there using my bone stock 2016 MDX on street tires. I did air down and had a full set of recovery gear and 2 weeks of food/water. The MDX has 7.5 inches of clearance so it was marginal. One spot was a bit of a challenge but otherwise it was fine. I am not an expert but has some off road experience. I highly recommend it. I quite enjoyed myself. I think with a 4 Runner your should be fine. Beyond Barker I did venture a bit past but (I knew already before I left but wanted to check it out) it was pretty much impassable in my vehicle. However, it looks like a fun road, goes over the Manley Pass and down South of Badwater
@cvvhrn Looks like fun!
@ai6yr It was a blast. I did get an odd vibe from the place that I could not shake and after I left I went to Manzanar and was one of the few people there so it was kind of a day filled with evil I guess
@cvvhrn @ai6yr I cried. I cry every time.
@BakerRL75 @ai6yr Yeah I know what you mean. I have never been so troubled I'm my life visiting that place. I still cannot shake this marker in the main cemetery Born in captivity, died in captivity all in one day
@ai6yr This was the hardest part for me in the MDX. Its a bit steeper than it looks but a 4 Runner should handle it with no problem. My issue was ground clearance and street tires
@cvvhrn Thanks! Oh yeah, that should be fine in a 4Runner with no problems at all... do that kind of stuff just going back and forth to beehives on the weekend.
@ai6yr I spent about 7 total hours from the time I left the Goler Wash entrance and returned. I did not spend a ton of time as I wanted to hit Manzanar (I was staying in Lone Pine) and did not want to spend the night or try to navigate the wash at night. The Keystone mine is also on the way and it was a fun stop. I did try to see if I could get tot he mine proper but had some issues passing the lower wash plant so I passed given that I was solo
@cvvhrn Whew! That's a trek... I will have to try that sometime. Curious what the camping possibilities are, but that might be a bit eerie out there with no one around LOL
@ai6yr Yeah the whole Manson thing is a bit eerie. Supposedly the FBI used Ground penetrating radar and found nothing buried. There are a few cabins on the entire pathway and plenty of space at Barker to camp. The Raptor in the picture had his whole family there camping and that Raptor was set up nice. Gave me a bit of attitude when I was airing down at Ballarat about my MDX but seemed surprised I made it as far as I did LOL
