I am very, very worried for what the post-2024 United States will look like.
The GOP is a fully fascist party at this point.
If they win big, there aren't enough constitutional safeguards in the world to contain them.

Their war on Black and trans existence is a preview of what they will attempt to do to any and all marginalized people, as well as leftist opposition, on a national level.
I really fear that we are potentially about to reach the point of no return.
During the Trump era, I was very insistent that we needed to militantly oppose explicit fascists in the street and make sure there was a bright line that kept electeds from courting them.
That's still important, but's infinitely more difficult now that the line has been crossed.
There's no lifeboat big enough to fit all the people they want to hurt and kill, so we have to be disciplined and wise and find ways to fight here, now.
Even though we are all so exhausted.
These are not easy or fair times.
@TheGreatLlama: These days, Germany is a pretty good place to hide from the Nazis.

It's been a LONG time since I was there. They certainly took that shit seriously back then, but...
It still doesn't address the issue. There isn't a place on the planet that is safe if we allow the US to go fully fascist.
@TheGreatLlama: Unfortunately, Melon is already hard at work creating a fascistic dystopia on Mars.

I object to the word "will". It won't, because it's not happening. It WOULD be that if he could make it happen, but there is a lot of literal space between earth orbit and starting an actual colony on Mars.
That said, if you agree to get on the spaceship of a con artist to go live in his magic martian kingdom, you are only the victim of your own foolishness.
@gooba42: Sounds a lot like the main impetus in Warframe, at least the way Demon Mama described it.

The Outer Worlds by Obsidian and Private Division rips you out of hypersleep and drops you in the middle of a conspiracy at the furthest reaches of the galax...
@gwensnyder True, but...
From demographics to economics to incumbent advantages, to the unpopular Republican policies/Trump, the odds of a GOP nomination winning aren't great.
Polls this far out have no relation to the outcome. It's common for approval of modern POTUSes to be low a few years in, but factors I mentioned ALL weigh in pretty reliably.
Biden beat Trump by 4.5%.
I'd expect 5.5% next, w/ the map to be similar, but w/ Biden win in Ohio, due to Sherrod Brown being up for re-election.
@gwensnyder Out of these states, NC, GA, OH, and AZ are most likely to flip.
But all of them could go Republican, and Biden would *STILL* win.
If you're not in a background state you can still help them. Check out a state Dem party and volunteer to help.
@gwensnyder The absolute best way to defeat fear is action, and when it comes to suggested action, I think Steve Phillip's diagnosis is correct. See "Brown is the New White".
Invest in one-to-one minority voter registration and organization, rather than throwing ads at fickle white voters. Fund groups who have a track record for successful organizing.
His org, Democracy in Color, has an excellent series of suggestions of groups in battleground states vital to support.

A New American Majority is rising. And not everyone is happy about that... The Confederate Army supposedly "surrendered" in 1865 following the "end" of the Civil War, but their fight to keep America fundamentally a white nation never stopped. Instead, itโs intensified. Weโv
@gwensnyder: If the fascists gain control over USA's federal government, a civil war inside USA is the best remaining option. The best option among only bad options.
Because the alternative scenario is, the top GOPnik will do what Hitler did when he invaded Poland, and if we're really unlucky, we might even find out how the Fermi paradox really works.
@gwensnyder they have never been contained and theyโve always been fully racist.
The last 60 years of Republicans have been spending massive amounts of energy to keep as many black people in prison, gerrymandering against black peoples, and otherwise making them unable to vote to mitigate their having been given โcivil rights.โ

Making it unfashionable to fund the Republican party's anti-democracy movement should be the goal.
@gwensnyder It will look like it did when it was (basically) "first" established...
Rights for cis white men (or those that are thought to be...) and none for anyone else.
That's it. That's the post. It is what they always wanted and think it is a great thing to "get back to".
They have made their aim very obvious. The only issue now is what to do...
And if they lose they won't accept it.
