@GatekeepKen

If Jeff Bezos had $188 Billion dollars and we taxed him at 90% he’s still have $18 billion dollars.

WTF, not enough?

@NoctisEqui @GatekeepKen Ummmmm……. Billionaires not logical, eg. Elon Musk, and not infrequently, greedy insecure and impressed by pots’n’pots of money…. Not really interested in what the plebs need/want…. Just give those Billionaires more money and tax credits….

@GatekeepKen

Sverige, Nederlands, Deutschland: I salute you.

@GatekeepKen Germany taxes billionaires? Since when lol
@patrice_voss @GatekeepKen It’s probably similar to Canada. We tax the billionaires who haven’t used all loopholes available or hidden their money abroad. So it’s purely theoretical.
@Yup_Its_Holly @GatekeepKen we only tax the income and there is a tax for heritage but the so called Vermögenssteuer that taxes the assets isn't used since 1997.
In Germany, there are two families that have more assets than half of the German population combined.

@GatekeepKen In the USa the billionaire tax rate is at about 30% (37% federal + 12% state give or take)... which is higher than most countries.

Also keep in mind most billionaires experience double taxation, the company itself is taxed, then the billionaire is taxed too.

@freemo @GatekeepKen Company and billionaire are separate entities. The company is taxed for its income, the billionaire is taxed for the income paid to them by the company. It's not a complex thing to understand.

@deedeeque No one said anything to the contrary.. and no it isnt a complicated thing to understand (but discussing like a mature adult appears like it could be a problem for you).

As I said, the billionaire tax rate in america is higher than most of europe, even when you dont count the double taxation, which is relevant because usually the middle class use pass-through taxation schemes and dont experience the same double taxation.

@GatekeepKen Is this another one of these 100% wrong the-opposite-of-what-America-does memes? These countries have pretty low taxes on capital income nowadays. Sweden's 50%+ income tax (more like 67% taking employer-side payroll taxes into account) is on high wage income; capital income taxes are much lower than that - for example, capital gains are taxed 30%, vs. 20% in the US.

@GatekeepKen

I wondered if they left Sweden to avoid such high taxes - nope.

@GatekeepKen No wonder they live here.
