truth πŸ˜…
@nixCraft I heard this first from my dentist twenty years ago. It is industry independent
@grobmeier @nixCraft It's also how biology works. Not the field, I mean "everything alive"....
@nixCraft
Soooo true ... πŸ˜†

@nixCraft

Me: (seeing a script I wrote just for my own use, months/years previously being used to drive a CRITICAL organizational workflow) "Uh... where'd you get that script?"
Them: "Oh. We found it in root's home on a server and it turned out to be really useful".

People ask me why I (now) put so much effort into making sure "throwaway" scripts are full of error handling and other "this is a Real Program" features. You just never know what's going to become permanent.

@nixCraft it's like, it's temporary only if it works and if it works it's a permanent solution πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
@nixCraft A lot of that could be said for sysadmins as well!
@nixCraft … aye, temp status of m.i.t.’s temporary ww2 building 20 (r.i.p.) lived venerably on (and most famously-aye) for 50years …

@nixCraft: The Swiss even have their own word for it: #Providurium (From the German and probably Latin equivalents of provisional and durability. It's primarily a wordplay on the German word "Provisorium".)
@nixCraft This is also one of temporary solution from Microsoft πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ https://mastodon.social/@arstechnica/110458880367206995
