Blast. I managed to drop my pocket trumpet and put a small, soft dent in the bell bow. Grr.
Still, it’s not a major dent and the purpose of this trumpet was to use it to practice and cart around so I don’t damage my fancy horn but it’s still irritating. #clumsy
@Wigglepig I am amazed such a thing as pocket trumpet exists.
@M0KHR @Wigglepig They are so cute. I'd love one, but I can't play.
@hftouhf @Wigglepig perfect tool to meet your neighbours!
@M0KHR @hftouhf not at all, few neighbours even know I play an instrument!
@hftouhf @M0KHR modern mutes are very effective for practice at home without disturbing people.
@Wigglepig @M0KHR I quite like it though. Someone across the road used to practice with their oboe, but I've not heard it for a while.
@hftouhf @M0KHR if you wanted to go a bit technical then Yamaha make their “Silent Brass” mutes, which render it almost inaudible if you’re not in the same room and contain a tiny microphone which connects to a small amplifier and earphones. This plays really well and does it’s job exceptionally well.
@Wigglepig @M0KHR Interesting, didn't know that sort of thing existed.
@hftouhf @M0KHR one of the things I really like about learning brass is just how straightforward and tech-free they can be; rock up to orchestra practice with instrument, a book of sheet music, some oil and smile. No amplifiers necessary, no wires, nothing between yourself and a piece of well-made brass.
@M0KHR they are the same pitch and range as a standard trumpet (in this case a B-flat instrument) but just rolled up a bit smaller, so the same length of tubing just coiled into a smaller volume. This one is a mini pocket trumpet which has a smaller/truncated bell making it truly pocketable if you have a coat pocket.
