I’m pretty level-headed most of the time but I turn 100% feral Karen when—in the year of our New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde 2023—the volume buttons on my keyboard are STILL rendered useless attempting to control an HDMI or USB-C output.
we can burn billions of dollars in electricity costs for fake digital coins and spicy at-scale generic autocomplete but how dare you attempt to control the volume of your speakers

@zachleat Tangentially, Apple just announced that M1/M2 MacBooks will be able to connect to Made For iPhone hearing aids via Bluetooth, and now I'm morbidly intrigued about the idea of changing my hearing aid volume with my keyboard.

…Feels like it would never happen how I expect.

@ben fascinating!
@zachleat (I don't know if keyboards will factor into support at all, purely musing about the prospect, but I will say that I'm excited about finally not needing to blast computer audio through my speakers)
@ben given current support—who knows 🤷🏻
@zachleat On a Mac? SoundSource can fix this (I use it for my external speakers that run off my monitor) https://rogueamoeba.com/soundsource/
SoundSource - Superior sound control

Quickly play sound bites, audio effects, and music clips on your Mac.

@robb yeah—I did try that—but it wanted me to disable some Mac OS security settings that I was not comfortable with
@zachleat Fair enough, I don’t remember doing that but I guess I did.
@robb appreciate the tip though! I ended up going with https://staticz.com/soundcontrol/
Sound Control – App Volumes and Equalizer for Mac – Static Z Software

@zachleat @robb might have to pick this up too
@zachleat @robb ok I lied and went with Robb's suggestion
@zachleat This was a big surprise when I bought my first usb DAC too. #itJustWerks
