Anyone with good #android #phone knowledge could answer me a question about quick charge? 👁️
@markybuns what's up? Which device?
@rechner I want to buy a samsung phone that supports quick charge up to 25w but comes with a slow charger, I wanted to know if the charger I own that's 30w will work on it. I think there are different protocols for each SOC manuf. and Idk if they're interchangeable. The charger I have is for a phone with a mediatek SOC and the new phone has an exynos
@markybuns most everything has been converging around USB-C PD, so if you're looking to invest in a new charger definitely go with that. Sounds like you might have a QC 2 or 3 charger, which was pushed by Samsung for a long time so there's likely to be good compatibility there. The industry is fraught with gotchas but chances are good!
@rechner So, I'm not talking about buying a new charger, but using the one that came with my Realme 8 4G which is 30w. The phone I think I might buy is a Samsung Galaxy a54. Since they have different SOCs I thought they might not have compatible quick charge? For instance, when I try charging my mother's motorola phone with a snapdragon with my charger it doesn't seem to detect quick charge
@markybuns @rechner it can depend because there's 3 different versions of the Qualcomm 'quickcharge' 'standard' as well as USB Power Delivery as a standard. What does the charger it's self state it supports? QC3.0, or PD, usually if they list just volt/amp combinations it's raw PD with no 'smarts' to handshake with any other protocols and such...
