The problem with tech is that there’s too much expectation that it should be sexy. All the bits we rely on - hardware, OS’s, core libs - are at their best when they’re as boring as the beige boxes PCs used to come in.

This stuff should be dull, it should just work exactly as you’d think and no user should give even a second’s thought to it. It shouldn’t be exciting, and it definitely shouldn’t warrant a CEO getting on a big stage fishing for breathless gasps.

Make Tech Boring Again

@sinbad When I was young, and deciding on a career path, someone once warned me of engineering disciplines: "if you build a hundred bridges, the only one people will remember you for is the one that falls down." I took that to mean two things. First, that success is short lived, and failures will follow you around for a while. Second, that true success might mean obscurity. After all, of all the safe and reliable bridges you cross daily, how many times have you thought about the builder of one?
@sinbad (I'm not religious but...) Amen!
@sinbad Sexy is having built this machine 5-6 years ago, installing Arch in it and never having had to reinstall the main OS (I DO have a separate disk with Windows which I briefly used for work and.... that one did not survive even that brief use)
