In the run up to #Pride, I'm updating a story on how to secure your mobile device for a protest. I'd love to talk to a #queer advocacy group with an interest in #infosec and digital #privacy. Suggestions?

Being queer has somehow not equipped me with a set of relevant press contacts.

This is bi-erasure.

@maxeddy Just check the welcome packet, they should be in there
@misoks Uggggh I missed the orientation πŸ˜©β€‹
@maxeddy I can’t recommend bringing a cell tower modem connected mobile device to a protest. There are many factors including the privacy and public protest laws where you live. Most modern phones can still be tracked when off or in airplane mode. Nation states can and will often require you to unlock your device by force. (Threats on your life or property) At best I would say a disposal camera and a prepaid basic phone with removal battery for emergency calls. (This phone should never be used for any other things, or even near your place of residence) And always, always let someone you trust know where you are, how long you will be there and who you are with. Physical safety above all. Not everything has to be live-streamed.

@maxeddy These videos by "The Hated One" might be very helpful to you. I would also encourage you to check out his other content on the channel. Although the channel is targeted towards the more extreme threat models, the advice is still mostly solid.
