Hey mastodon! I'm looking for recommendations of online multiplayer games on steam, itchio or epic for me to play with my brother. We live on other sides of the country so no local co-op and he doesn't own a switch and I really only play online on switch currently [so I don't know what good pc multiplayer games there are].

My pc is not beef enough to try to emu switch games so emu's not an option.

Looking for recommendations for things like party/more casual games, rather than things like competitive online fps, mmos or the like.

Some games I am considering now are:
Shapes and Beats [I have played this on my switch with other people before and it's very fun, but I would need to buy it on pc to play with him. it's a bullet hell rhythm action game.], Untitled Goose Game [been wanting to buy this for awhile and playing with someone seems fun, it's about being a goose and causing problems], maybe Minecraft? [Setting up multiplayer seems like a massive pain from what I have seen?]

@NamelessMewMew Whatever it is you end up choosing I recommend waiting until the Steam summer sale. Should be just a week or three away.

My taste in games is a bit less casual, but I recommend them nonetheless.

Portal 2
Dungeon Defenders
Gremlins Inc
Talisman
Terraria
Overcooked
Out of Space

And if you can handle using Steam's Remote Play Together feature, I also *heavily* recommend Crawl

@Arxosnox Thanks for the recommendations and thanks for the tip about waiting for the steam sale! :]

@NamelessMewMew Turns out I was wrong, it's a full month until then. 29th of June. Feels like the sale is a bit later than usual.

Still, the summer sale on Steam is nothing to scoff at. Coming from the Switch it will feel like night and day. There's a reason people joke and meme about this particular sale every year.

If Steam doesn't have a discount on a particular game you want I also recommend Humble Bundle and Fanatical, both are third-party sites but they sell official Steam keys.

@Arxosnox Thanks for the correction! Yeah that does seem a bit later than usual.

Yeah surely! The discounts during this particular sale are quite something! I remember how I snagged a bunch of the rpgmakers for what felt like nothing during the summer sale last year.

@NamelessMewMew Oh sorry, I thought you were new to Steam entirely, hence the explaining and stuff. My bad
@Arxosnox Oh it's no problem! I'm not new to steam as a whole but I have mostly only used it for gamdev up to this point rather than buying/browsing games so I appreciate the advice and explanations!
