On Monday, I wrote that brands need to stick by marketing decisions they make in the face of manufactured outrage, arguing that rolling out a big "Pride" thing and then doing a 180 in response to backlash was worse than not doing anything for Pride at all.

On Tuesday, Target proved my point. https://www.readtpa.com/p/brands-need-to-make-decisions-about

Brands Need to Make Decisions About LGBTQ Pride Marketing Right Now, Not When the Right Has a Predictable Meltdown

We're About to Find Out Just How Conditional Corporate Support for LGBTQ People Has Always Been. (Hint: Very)

The Present Age

I want to point out that the outrage about a "tuck-friendly" bathing suit or whatever was simply them seeing that a product could theoretically be worn by a trans person, and arguing that it therefore shouldn't be for sale.

It's the same as the Dylan Mulvaney thing: the issue was that she's trans and exists.

What, exactly, are trans people supposed to do? We need help.

@parkermolloy Amazing. How many of us didn’t notice that, because it doesn’t apply to us, and we’re mature enough to let people live in peace?

@parkermolloy Mm, how about describe absolutely everything worthwhile as tuck-friendly to shut the hateful bigots out of society until they learn to grow up?

"This sidewalk is surprisingly tuck-friendly!"
"This is the tuck-friendliest ice cream in the city!"
"Did you know windows and sunshine are tuck-friendly means of air circulation and illumination?"

@AdamF @parkermolloy I like this approach. Stickering might need to happen.
@parkermolloy their real concern is that they might be “tricked” into comming on to “a guy”. How could they live with the confusion , the humiliation, the thought that they approached another guy? Are women there for them or could it be a trap?
@parkermolloy they are cowards, plain and simple. The hate directed at a vulnerable group is unconscionable

@parkermolloy

It was an absolutely moronic move by Anheuser-Busch. Just let the toothless rednecks shoot cans and whine. They'll forget about it just like they did Disney and Aruba. Instead they piss off the other side and make a really weird alliance between them.

@parkermolloy Between “do nothing” and “conduct a training exercise for violent extremists,” I agree “no nothing” is pretty clearly the better choice.
