I think money spent on the cops is (usually) worse though, as cops spend a lot of time harassing people in poor neighborhoods, are rarely accountabile to anyone and are given lots of gear that they don't need. In peacetime, the army just sits there.

Defunding the police is mostly a statement of priorities; if we value the well-being of our neighbors then a truncheon should be the last resort.
