A heart transplant recipient was arrested after a dispute with a neighbor over WiFi. Jail officials refused to let him take his transplant medication for two days. He’d waited 12 years for a heart. His body rejected the heart, and he died.

‘My heart will be rejected’: Jacksonville man dies after missing doses in jail

After a dispute with his neighbor over wireless internet access, police arrested Dexter Barry and denied him the heart transplant medicine he said he needed.

The Tributary
Just an idea but maybe we should not incarcerate people for minor offenses (he allegedly threatened to beat a neighbor up) and we should treat the people who are incarcerated like human beings
@juddlegum We shouldn't be killing people for misdemeanors, either.
@Seilenos @juddlegum in England an incident like this would most likely only result in a formal Caution (equivalent of the US misdemeanour) and hours rather than days in the cells (even in affluent suburban areas, old people are always fighting each other and getting nicked over petty disputes like this). OTOH far fewer folk have guns easily to hand (even in the countryside where long guns are still permitted and widely owned they have to be safely locked away when not in use)
@vfrmedia @Seilenos @juddlegum
That’s likely what would happen in most of the US as well… if you’re white. Even without the picture, I knew the victim was almost certainly dark-skinned.

@Seilenos
@juddlegum I think what's really lacking is serious, maybe equivalent, consequences for those that cause this type of harm.

Justice is dead.

@juddlegum I was under the impression that when someone is arrested and then claims they were injured in the arrest they get taken to a hospital to be evaluated because cops don't want the liability of being blamed for injury. So this guy's mistake was to not lie and say they beat him up... which would have gotten him in front of a doctor who could have made sure he got his meds. Sad.
@juddlegum the electorate in Florida knew damn well that things like this would happen, and they want it to happen. The only thing that will stop this is severe material consequences for anyone supporting white nationalism.
@juddlegum they should be charged with murder, or at least manslaughter.
@juddlegum Sounds like the jailers murdered him. If you can't prove intent, do them for negligent homicide at a minimum.
@juddlegum it seems to me that in the USA being a serial killer is perfectly legal if you are dressed in a proper way

@juddlegum

Dear Cops:

Stop. Killing. Black. People.

@juddlegum this is a travesty. Heads should roll.
