Greg Knapp@fladdle some poignant paragraphs but no solutions / alternatives mentioned or imagined. Main stream media sees degrowth as unimaginable, as it breaks the capitalist machine. The shift required is so monumental, I think it's going to take a distopian event and global economic collapse for an appropriately sized shift in consumption and expectation. It didn't have to be that way but time and again governments refuse the science that would've steered us towards a softer landing
@gregk I like reading this man's posts - very insightful, sometimes solution-oriented, usually has my head nodding in agreement. The dystopia has already begun, IMO, but it may not have hit many western nations yet.
@fladdle He provides an interesting perspective on topics. I just get fatigued by pointing out problems and then feeling disempowered to solve them or disappointed that's the route chosen (usually due to monetary incentive / greed of a few). It leads to misanthropy and sadness that this generations 'leaders' have decided to throw away all previous generations progress, culture and hard work so they can have their cake & eat it now.
@gregk I agree. But I'm kind of stuck on the horrible truth for the moment. Each time I think there may be some relief (eg EVs or renewable energy) a layer is revealed that shows the [pointlessness. I don't know what to do. (I'm not asking for suggestions 😞 )
@fladdle I get that, went through the same thing myself. Don't look too hard, for me it eroded my faith that we're smart enough to get ourselves out of dodge.
